The Almost Lost Tracks

On a regular Wednesday night, I found myself winding down, lying in bed, and enjoying some music as I prepared to slip into slumber. As I was about to doze off, a familiar melody from the Indian epic romantic drama, Veer-Zaara, gently nudged my consciousness. Intrigued, I looked up the mastermind behind the music — Late Madan Mohan.

I vaguely remember watching Veer-Zaara when I was younger, not fully understanding the songs but enjoying the beats. However, back then, I didn’t pay much attention to who composed the music. It’s funny how things come full circle. My parents used to talk about Madan Mohan and the magic he infused into those songs, which were created around 30 years before I watched the movie and now echoing across half a century. It’s pretty amazing when you think about it!

As the midnight hour approached and my curiosity grew, I embarked on a quest as I delved into the story behind the music, learning that the movie featured 11 tracks, all composed by Madan Mohan. Finding the YouTube videos by YRF recounting their creation added to my delight as I watched them and appreciated the songs, I was astonished at the transition from original compositions to the final renditions featured in the film. Credit must be given to Mr. Sanjeev Kohli, Madan Mohan’s son, for preserving the treasure his father had created. (Story Linked Here)

It struck me profoundly that true art never really fades away. The emotions and creativity an artist pours into their work stay alive, touching people across generations.
